Who is Scott from Horizon Bound?

Whats up everyone!? Scott here from Horizon Bound. I hope you are doing well, I'm doing terrific. Today, I want to talk a little bit about Horizon Bound. Originally called Horizon Hikers, I created an Instagram page to document the travels of my wife and I chasing the horizon. We both have a huge passion for the outdoors and love getting as far back into the backcountry as possible. We would backpack around the rim of Crater Lake in Oregon, the sandy trails of Joshua Tree, or backpack deep into Yosemite, and I would bring my love of photography to document every trip. As much as we loved backpacking these wonderful places, I realized that having an off-road vehicle would open the door to WAY more places most hikers would never be able to reach because of how long it would take to get there. So I spent the next couple years researching the best off-road vehicle that was reliable and comfortable but would also be able to handle the rugged trails I would be traveling on to get to our next destination; and thats when the Toyota Tacoma came into our lives.

It was October 2020 and I had all but given up on trying to find the perfect truck that would be our future adventure mobile. I knew I wanted a midsize truck as I would be exploring narrow trails that full size trucks wouldn't fit through. I had considered the NEW Jeep Gladiator but since it had just came out in 2019, I was unsure of it's reliability, especially since a lot of the 2018+ Jeeps Wranglers were getting recalled, so I had set my sights on Tacoma. They are extremely well built, last forever, and look pretty bad ass, stock or modified. But after driving to multiple dealerships and either laughing at the dealer mark ups or not being interested in all of the add ons that were on the truck to make it seem worth the price, I started to lose hope; until I saw an add on Autotrader. There was a beautiful 2020 Quicksand Tacoma TRD Off-Road for sale with 9000 commuter miles on it. It had everything I wanted and none of the extra stuff I didnt. I called the number on the add and Anderson Toyota quickly responded back saying it was still available. I was stoked that this could be the one, and then I saw that Anderson Toyota was in Lake Havasu, Arizona, over 350 miles away. I put a small refundable deposit down, grabbed my wife, and sped off to AZ in hopes that I'd be the owner of a beautiful Tacoma. It was the color I wantd, it had the premium off road package, the advanced tech package, everything minus the crappy Predator tubes and extra non sense items that would have been ripped off anyway. Once we arrived, we took it on a test drive and I was immediately sold. I felt like Fry from Futurama, "Take my money!" After signing the papers and stopping for a quick bite, it was time to head back home. The sun was setting as we drove to California and I remember thinking, "We're Horizon Bound now."

Stay tuned for Part 2 coming soon!
